Support & FAQ

Have a look below first. If it isn't here, email me.

A human writes the replies. It's a one-person project, so it may take a day or two. If runs have disappeared or the app won't open, put [urgent] in the subject.

Ghosts & racing

I have no history. What am I racing?

Your first run races a target-pace ghost — an imaginary runner holding a steady 5'30"/km over 5km. Run once, and from then on yesterday's you takes over.

The gap looks wrong

The gap compares where both of you are at the same moment. It isn't your speed multiplied by a time difference. So when you suddenly speed up, the gap doesn't jump by the same amount — your rival is still running their own pace.

If GPS drops in a tunnel or between tall buildings, your step count keeps the distance going. Lose the signal for long enough and SoomRun switches the ghost off and keeps recording the run.

I want a different opponent

Tap the Today's opponent card on the home screen. Yesterday's you, your best, your average, and the target-pace ghost — more options appear as your history grows.

Apple Watch

The watch doesn't show today's opponent

Open SoomRun on your iPhone once. The phone works out the opponent and sends it to the watch. After that the watch can run on its own, even with the phone switched off.

Still nothing? Quit and reopen SoomRun on the watch.

My watch run didn't reach my iPhone

It transfers automatically when the two devices meet again. The run is stored on the watch in the meantime, so nothing is lost.

The same run is never saved twice — SoomRun matches on start time and distance.

It uses a lot of battery

GPS and heart rate run continuously, so it costs more than an ordinary app. Taking your iPhone along lets the watch borrow the phone's GPS, which uses less watch battery.

Data & permissions

I declined location access

SoomRun can't measure distance or route, so a run can't start. Change it in Settings → SoomRun → Location to "While Using the App". SoomRun never asks for Always.

Can I decline Apple Health?

Yes. Every feature works exactly the same. Your runs just won't be written to the Health app.

I want my runs in another app

If Apple Health sync is on, your runs are there as workouts, and any other app that reads Health can pick them up.

How do I delete everything?

Me → Delete all runs. This can't be undone. Deleting the app also removes everything it stored. Workouts already in Apple Health must be deleted from the Health app.

Other

Can I change the language?

Me → Language. Pick 한국어 or English directly — it changes the app only, not your device. Distance units follow your region, so switching to English keeps kilometres if that's what you use.

Is there anything to pay for?

Running, recording and racing yourself are free forever. There are no ads. An account is optional — everything works without one.

There is one paid tier, SOOM+. It adds Future You: write down a goal finish time and we build a ghost that runs exactly that pace. $24.99/year or $3.49/month, auto-renewing. Cancel anytime in your App Store account settings.

When does the free trial start?

Three weeks from the day you finish your first run — not from install. Designing a goal pace means knowing your current pace, and that takes one run. No card is required, and nothing is charged when the trial ends.

What happens to my goals if I stop subscribing?

They stay. You can keep racing them; only creating new ones stops. Your recorded runs are never locked, under any circumstances.
